What a week! JCC’s Submerged Day Camp is coming to a close today after a whole week of music and dancing, crafting and teaching, playing and eating. A huge shout out to the team of 20 from Alabama who traveled all the way to Alaska to help us make this Day Camp available to the kids in our community. This team has been going non-stop since they hit the ground last Friday night decorating, shepherding kids, cooking, cleaning, teaching and making it all come together. They even staffed Parents Night Out for us and ministered at Parachutes to the Teens. Thank you! Thank you to the JCC Teens who were here faithfully each day to help out, too. Thank you to Pastor Caleb and Pastor Shayna for organizing the event and hosting the team.
Today’s devotional really gets to the heart of grace and forgiveness. It’s not a trite pie-in-the-sky everything-is-hunky-dory-feel-good devotional, but for those of us to whom forgiveness is not easy it will help us make forward progress in the forgiveness process.
The only thing harder than forgiveness is the alternative. Magnanimous forgiveness, allows the possibility of transformation in the guilty party. Lewis Smedes details this process of “spiritual surgery”: When you forgive someone, you slice away the wrong from the person who did it. You disengage that person from his hurtful act. You recreate him. Ata href=’http://www.faithgateway.com/the-scandal-of-forgiveness/’ title=’Read more’ …/a

Things are looking rather grim in our world today. So many dreadful things are going on and the future seems pretty bleak. Don’t give in to fear or despair, though, because there is still hope. Click on the arrow below to listen to Pastor Marlan’s Sunday morning message on hope.
