Living Palms Up

Jesus never said that what we’re called to do as we are living this Christian life and walking this Christian path would be easy. On the contrary, He said the narrow path that leads to life was the difficult one, and that in this life we would have troubles. However He also said that we can be of good cheer for He overcame this world (John 16:33). Today’s devotional brings encouragement as we choose to do the hard things we stub our toes on as we journey to the end of our earthly pilgrimage.

Let them turn the other cheek to those who strike them and accept the insults of their enemies. — Lamentations 3:30 When people get angry or defensive they tend to make mistakes. But nobody can be defensive with their palms up. Go ahead and try it. Right now, wherever you are. Rock Gardening: The Impossible Person

There are very few among us who do not have a person – or several – who are just flat out difficult to love. Today’s devotional addresses the problem from the perspective of a gardener. It offers helpful suggestions as we navigate these relationships.

Who is the seemingly impossible person in your life whom you must interact with on a regular basis? There’s someone like that in everyone’s life. Perhaps we work with them, serve with them, gave birth to them, married them, or go to school with them. These people are often socially challenged or just plain self-centered and stubborn. We make various attempts to develop a harmonious relationship, pleading with God to enable us to love this person with His love. Nothing works. Even if we managed read more

Divine Direction: Stay — Finish Strong – FaithGateway

When times are bad and things get unpleasant it’s tempting to throw in the proverbial towel and hit the road. Although there are times when removing oneself from a negative situation is called for, more often than not God wants us to trust Him and stay put. Think about King David or the Apostle Paul or a myriad of other saints of God who persevered. If they could, by God’s grace, so can you. Today’s devotional offers encouragement to “keep on keeping on” even when the way is painful.

One day you’re going to come to a fork in the road. And this new direction may look like the perfect route to take. But no matter how appealing it is, God may lead you to stay the course instead. Maybe you’re in college right now. You’ve been thinking, I’m not going to make it.a href=’http://www.faithgateway.com/divine-direction-stay-finish-strong/’ title=’Read more’ …/a

Truth About You

Today’s devotional encourages us to believe what God says about us rather than what our head may be saying. Truth!

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well (Psalm 139:13-14).

“Have you ever experienced something like this? Your head insisting that God created you and loves you, but your heart and emotions punching away at that truth with thoughts like, “What’s wrong with me? I never seem to do anything right!”

The blows can give you an overwhelming sense of worthlessness and rejection, because that is what untruth about yourself does. It beats you down and knocks you out.

When there is a fight between your heart and your head, experience has taught me that the best thing to do is pick up your Bible and remind yourself of what God says.

It is His truth that will enable you to go into the future undaunted.”

Don’t Give Up

Today’s devotional was written to leaders but is applicable to us all. There are very few – if any – among us who have not been tempted to just give up at times when the way became especially difficult. Hang in there!

Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. — Hebrews 10:36

“Effective leaders accomplish seemingly impossible tasks because they never give up. They never buckle under. Despite mounting criticism, intense opposition, and overwhelming obstacles, they persevere with determined resolve. They refuse to throw in the towel.

Often, the easiest thing would be to quit. Just give up. Forget about one’s dream and return to the comfort and convenience of read more

Lost Luggage

If you have traveled very much you’ve probably experienced a lost bag or two. Today’s devotional takes that unpleasant experience and turns it into a wonderful object lesson for our life journey.

“To begin with, I over-packed. I expected to get all sorts of extra projects done in the “spare time” that would magically materialize during the trip. Also, I couldn’t figure out which clothes to take—why is it so hard to come up with read more
